At this point of entry our experienced warehouse team grade all incoming goods into:
  • Items suitable for testing
  • Goods suitable for material recovery only
If an item is graded to be suitable for reuse, it is palleted and sent to be tested.

If and only when it passes this test it is considered to be suitable for reuse.
If the item is obviously broken or is unsuitable for reuse then it is sent to be dismantled and separated into various raw material categories i.e. plastics, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cables, printed circuit boards and wood.

All of these separated materials are bailed and sent for further processing or reuse.

CRT

WEEE regulations

Our testing process involves electrical safety testing (PAT) and then passing an electrical current in to the CRT and checking to see if the item carries a picture. TV's and monitors which pass this test are shrink wrapped and stored in our warehouse ready for distribution. Any items failing this test are sent to be stripped and recycled.

We also have a process by which TV's and monitors that are in need of a minor repair are repaired are repaired on site before passing into the reuse system.

The CRT's destined for recycling are shipped to a fully approved smelting plant to recover the lead the remaining glass is re-used as building aggregate. There are other emerging uses for CRT glass as a recycled raw material such as use in the manufacture of bricks and tiles but as yet there is not an application that can make this a viable activity without a gate fee. We are proud that only a minimal amount of general waste is sent to land fill from our site and strive towards fulfilling a zero waste policy.
